Class Syllabus

Welcome to Franklin Academy!

The seventh grade social studies curriculum consists of the following content area strands:  Civics, Government and Economics.  The primary content for the course pertains to the principles, functions, and organization of government; the origins of the American political system; the roles, rights, responsibilities of United States citizens; and methods of active participation in our political system. 

Over the course of the year, we will be focusing on:

-Foundation of Government, Law and the American Political System

-US Constitution and Bill of Rights

-Federal, State & Local Government

-The Rule of Law & the American Legal System

-Judicial Review and Landmark Cases

-US Citizenship

-Civic Participation

-Political Parties, Voting and Elections

-Public Opinion

-Foreign Policy

-Foundation of Economics

                                                                               

Classroom Procedures

  • Beginning of each class, students will complete a DO NOW activity that will pertain to the lesson.

  • Students will have a variety of coursework, which includes, classwork, projects, quizzes and tests that will reinforce the content and skills being covered in class.

  • Students throughout the year will be working in cooperative learning groups, pairs and independently.

Classroom Rules

  • Be on time and prepared for class (i.e. pen, notebook, textbook, workbook)

  • Follow Directions

  • Be respectful of your classmates, teacher, and self.

  • Raise your hand to be recognized

  • Be an active learner and listener

  • Always give your 100%!
     

Classroom Supplies for Social Studies (separate from the General School Supply List)

  • Red Folder

  • Spiral Notebook; minimum 3 subject, with perforated sheets

Tests               35%

Classwork      20%

Missing Assignments

  • Students have 2 days to make up work and it is 10% off the earned grade each day it is late after that.

Electronic Devices

  • No cell phone usage is permitted in class.  School policy states they must be turned off upon entering the building. Cell phones will be confiscated and sent to the office if seen.
